Cryptocurrency fraud: On July 15 a complainant reported losing about $800,000 in a months long investment scam after suspects posing as investment advisers convinced the couple to send money through wire transfers and cryptocurrency. The victims later discovered the investment platform and chat groups were fraudulent. The case was referred to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for possible recovery of digital assets.
Fraud: On July 16, a Farragut woman reported receiving a fraudulent computer alert claiming she had accessed illegal websites and was instructed to send nearly $60,000 in cash and provide personal identification. She stopped the bank transfer after realizing it was a scam and did not lose any money. The report was later classified as unfounded.
Harassment: A Parkside Drive bank employee reported on July 20 a customer repeatedly called the bank after leaving, using racial slurs and threatening to assault her. Deputies documented the harassment and threats.
Leaving the scene of an accident: On July 24 deputies were conducting an unrelated traffic stop and witnessed a crash on North Campbell Station Road. One suspect fled on foot and was arrested after a brief pursuit on charges including resisting arrest and public intoxication. Another suspect was charged with
driving offenses, including driving without a valid license and without financial responsibility.
Theft of firearms: On July 27, a Farragut man reported that nine firearms and five cases of ammunition were stolen from a home on West Fox Chase Circle between February and May. The complainant believed a handyman hired to work at the residence may have been responsible, but no suspect was identified in the report.
Felony vandalism: A North Campbell Station Road smoke shop sustained about $3,015 in damage after an unknown suspect broke a window and attempted to pry open a door before leaving without gaining entry. Surveillance video captured the suspect, and the incident remains under investigation.
Fraud: On July 28, a Farragut woman reported a fraudulent $20 credit card charge made at a restaurant on Parkside Drive. The charge was disputed and refunded by the credit card company.
Theft of goods: Deputies arrested a suspect at a Parkside Drive department store on July 28 after she admitted to shoplifting about $190 worth of merchandise. The stolen items were recovered, and the suspect was also issued a criminal trespass warning barring her from returning to the property.
