Roberts takes the helm
KCHS made its first state tournament appearance in more than four decades this past spring.
“It was super exciting. I was happy to hear that they wanted me to continue after our run, and that was something I knew I wanted to continue doing,” Roberts said. “The athletes on this team are fun to be around, exciting to coach and it felt good for them to recognize that we helped them reach that point.”
“We are extremely pleased to name Haden Roberts as the next head softball coach at Knoxville Catholic High School,” KCHS athletic director Jason Surlas added. “Haden is an outstanding coach with extensive experience in the sport of softball and a man of tremendous character who embodies
the values of our school. I am confident he will build
upon the momentum and success of our softball program from last season.”
Before taking over at Catholic, Roberts was the head softball coach at Karns High School and Concord Christian School.
Now, he will lead the green and gold with Heather Roberts — co-head coach last season — staying on as an assistant.
“The school had asked me if we wanted Heather to stay, and I didn’t want to be there without her,” Haden Roberts said. “She makes our team a lot better and that was a no-brainer for me.”
Going forward, Roberts outlined what he wants for the program coming off a historic year.
“Just really putting a winning culture,” he said. “We got the taste of that last year, and so just really chasing that again. We want to have a culture of togetherness, and we got close as a team throughout our playoff run. You could tell girls’ mindsets changed, and they enjoyed being around each other. They’re all very exciting about this new change and the new culture we’re trying to make happen.”
