CLUP, new McFee Park feedback sought Monday

Farragut residents will have an opportunity to be involved in two upcoming meetings affecting their land use and how a new park is designed.

The Town is holding a meeting to update its Comprehensive Land Use Plan from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in the large classroom in Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestowne Blvd.

“The Town’s consultant — TSW — that has initiated the process of updating our Comprehensive Land Use Plan will be providing an overview for the [Farragut Municipal] Planning Commission and Board of Mayor and Aldermen of what the CLUP is, why it is being updated, the general process of updating the plan and how the updated plan may be used,” Community Development director Mark Shipley said. “Please try to attend this session as it should be very informative."

Following that session, a public kickoff meeting will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. in the Farragut Community Center Assembly Room for both the Comprehensive Land Use Plan update and the development of a Master Plan for the 70-acre park property at the southwest end of McFee Road.

The Town purchased property in 2023 for $5.5 million for future park development.

Last year, Farragut was awarded a $2.75 million federal Land andWater Conservation Fund grant to help fund the park, with construction of recreation facilities expected to begin by 2027.

Then, last May it contracted with Tunnel-Spangler & Associates to develop a master plan for the park at a cost of $134,340.

“In keeping with Land and Water Conservation Fund grant required timelines, the Town of Farragut is seeking

a qualified firm to work

closely with the Town, residents and stakeholders on a master plan for the 70-acre Town-owned property at the corner of McFee and Boyd Station roads,” Town Parks and Recreation director Ron Oestreich said.
