This fall, the How the West was Won football contest is back for another year.

The contest has been an annual occurrence for more than two decades, as the seven teams within the farragutpress coverage area — Farragut, Bearden, Hardin Valley, Christian Academy of Knoxville, Knoxville Catholic, Webb School of Knoxville and Concord Christian School — compete for the regular-season title.

Last season, Concord Christian won the contest for the first time ever, going 6-4 in the regular season with a plus-170 point differential providing the difference between CCS and Christian Academy of Knoxville, which also went 6-4 with a point margin of plus-54.

The winner will be the team that finishes with the best record through the regular season, and if two teams are tied, the win will go to the team with the highest point differential through those 10 games.

There will be a familiar sponsor this year, as PureMagic Car Wash returns.

Once the regular-season title is decided, representatives from PureMagic and the farragutpress will award the winner with a check to commemorate the honor.

“We are honored to be part of the farragutpress How the West Was Won contest,” said Kevin McBride, the Director of Operations at PureMagic Car Wash. “We are excited to be part of these schools' rivalries and look forward to the competition this brings out. Sports are such an influential part of our lives and its impact on the community, and at Pure Magic, we work hard to embody that sense of community and work hard to serve those around us. We are grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see who wins this year!”

“As we kick off the 19th year of the How the West Was Won contest at farragutpress, we’re grateful to welcome PureMagic Carwash back as our presenting sponsor,” farragutpress general manager Kathy Hartman added. “Their continued support and the partnership we've built over the years

have helped make this competition a tradition our readers look forward to each football season. Will defending champion Concord Christian capture the title once again? Or will five-time champ Christian Academy of Knoxville find themselves at the top again? We'll find out over the next nine short weeks."
