Board renews Shop Farragut MOU
The Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously to continue its memorandum of understanding with Shop Farragut/Farragut Business Alliance.
The agreement provides $70,000 to Shop Farragut, which, in turn, provides services and events designed to promote Farragut businesses.
“The FBA was formed in 2009 as a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization whose primary mission is to help promote businesses in the Town of Farragut,” Town administrator David Smoak said. “Since that time, the FBA has held several community events, such as Harvestfest, Health & Wellness Expo and Dog Daze at Village Green.
“The FBA also manages the grand opening sign applications for new businesses to the Farragut community and has been leading the marketing of the Shop Farragut campaign throughout the holiday shopping season,” he said.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an updated agreement with the FBA in 2023.
“The amended MOU would be for a one-year term and may be renewed annually unless the agreement is terminated by either party at any time during the agreement,” Smoak said.
“The MOU outlines the economic development initiatives and events the FBA will be responsible to provide for the Town of Farragut and the businesses located within the Town,” he said. “This MOU reflects the additional funding the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved in the FY 2027 budget, for a total of $70,000. The FBA has submitted a proposed budget and how they would utilize these funds.”
In other business, the board unanimously approved:
• A $30,000 contract with LDA Engineering Inc. to design and engineer a new pathway at Mayor Bob Leonard Park. The proposed path would cover just more than 66,000 square feet and extend approximately 8,250 linear feet.
• A contract with Roadway Management Technologies for a roadway condition assessment and pavement management system. The service will be purchased using sole-source justification, with a two-year initial term costing $34,650 per year. After the initial term, the annual cost would increase 3% each year, according to assistant Town engineer Eric Schindler.
• A $29,912.70 contract with Build to Skilled Services, LLC, for the design of restroom facilities and a possible electrical connection at the Biddle Farms Anchor Green space.
• Second reading of an ordinance amending the town’s zoning map for 8.55 acres at 817 Virtue Road from S-1, Community Service, and Agricultural to R-1, Rural Single-Family Residential. Property owners James J. Mathis Jr. and Deborah Ann Mathis plan to subdivide the property into three lots.
• Second reading of an ordinance amending the fiscal year 2025-26 Capital Investment Program fund budget to cover additional costs for the Anchor Green restroom project. The amendment moves $8,150 from CIP reserves to CIP expenditures.
• A resolution approving guidelines for the maintenance and retention of town records.
• A resolution affirming that the town’s zoning ordinance does not permit data processing centers.
