Rocking into a new school year
Between 600 and 1,000 families from across the community came out to celebrate the end of summer and the start of a new school at the bash hosted by CUMC.
“It’s our annual event to welcome people, celebrate the beginning of school and just love on our community,” said Brooke Hartman, discipleship pastor at CUMC. “Today, we have inflatables, free hamburgers and hot dogs and fixings. We have free snow cones. We’re hanging out together, fellowshipping.
“We love it,” Hartman said. “The energy and the people, it’s just a great night.”
There also were gift card giveaways for families to do activities, such as Main Event.
“Rock the Block has been a part of Concord at least 10 years,” CUMC senior pastor, the Rev. Wil Cantrell, said.
“It’s one of our favorite nights of the year, “ he added about the bash. “We love being able to invite the community out, just to bless families so they can have a relaxing, fun evening during the first week of school, which can be hectic otherwise.
“We take care of the fun and the food, and they make friends while they are here,” Cantrell said.
“Somewhere between 600 and 1,000 usually show up during the evening,” he said. “We publicize it throughout the community, so probably about half will not be from our church.
“Rock the Block is designed to bring the community together for an evening of fun, food, and fellowship,” an event flyer stated. “Guests of all ages will enjoy inflatable attractions, free hamburgers and hot dogs, snow cones, games and activities for the entire family.
“This is our way of celebrating our community and helping families kick off a new school year with fun and connection,” church leaders stated. “Whether you’re new to the area, looking for a family-friendly evening or simply want to enjoy great food and great company, everyone is welcome.”
Admission and all activities were completely free, making Rock the Block the “perfect opportunity for families, friends and neighbors to gather for an unforgettable summer evening,” the flyer stated.
