farragutpress staffers visit University of Tennessee’s CCI

On Monday, Aug. 10, farragutpress general manager Kathy Hartman and staff writer Jake Nichols visited The University of Tennessee’s College of Communication and Information (CCI).

During the visit, they walked through The Media Center, where students can “immerse themselves in hands-on experiences by taking on the same roles they’ll find in real-world workplaces,” according to the college’s website. “The Media Center offers free workshops and lectures featuring industry and academic experts,

giving students additional

exposure to knowledge and skills they’ll use in their future careers.”

This visit included a tour of multiple student-run

podcast and TV studios and a look at the student media

outlets housed within the college.

Also, there was an ongoing discussion about future collaboration between the college and the farragutpress.

As they swapped ideas, Nichols and Hartman sat down with Tennessee staff members Nick Geidner, a professor and director of The Media Center; Cheryl Welch, publications advisor; and Amy Jo Coffey, a professor and the director of Tennessee’s School of Journalism and Media.

The farragutpress is grateful for the college’s hospitality during a busy time of year

and looks forward to what could come of this developing relationship between the two entities.
