Lady Ads win big at LC

It was exactly the kind of performance a coach wants to see as the postseason looms.

Last Thursday, Sept. 24, on the road at Lenoir City High School, Farragut High School’s volleyball team put in a dominant performance, sweeping the Lady Panthers 3-0.

Only the third set was competitive, as FHS won 25-10, 25-9, and 25-20, and improved its Region 2, District 4 record to 2-3.

Lady Admirals’ coach Whitney Lee was pleased not just with the win, but that she was able to empty her bench, and get players valuable experience.

“We were more consistent in sets one and two, which I was happy with,” said Lee. “Everyone played this match and that’s always fun to see, since they’re putting in the work every day.”

Farragut had long scoring streaks in each of the first two sets. The third set was more balanced.

Among the Lady Admirals’ many contributors:

Sophomore middle hitter Chloe Cole had four kills and a block. Sophomore outside hitter Megan Frana had 10 kills, and sophomore middle hitter Olivia Cope had six kills along with her two blocks.

Junior middle hitter Katherine Cabaniss contributed four kills. Sophomore setter Emberly McNair was all over the floor, getting five kills, two blocks and six digs to go along with a team-tying high in assists, with 13.

Junior setter Madelyn McCurry tied McNair with 13 assists, and had six digs as well.

Freshman outside hitter Emmy Walkup and junior outside hitter Madelyn Kupferer combined for 13 digs, seven for Walkup.

William Blount 3, Farragut 0

Two nights earlier at home, FHS fell to the Lady Governors 3-0. The set scores were 27-25, 25-11, and 25-17.

“We came out flat in set two and tried to battle back in the third, but couldn’t pull it off,” Lee said. FHS’s district record after the match was 1-3.

Frana led in kills with 11. Cabaniss added seven kills, while Walkup got six, along with two aces.

McNair had another huge match, with 13 assists and 10 digs. McCurry added 11 assists.

“I moved some people around and they’re still getting used to new spots, so that was something we had to work through,” Lee said. “Inconsistency has been something we’ve struggled with and it was a factor again against William Blount”.
