Local standouts earn volleyball honors
With fall sports wrapping up, postseason awards have begun for multiple sports, including volleyball.
Under first-year coach Whitney Lee, Farragut saw three honorees: first-team All-District selection Megan Frana, who also earned All-Tournament honors; and second-team selection Olivia Cope; and honorable mention selection Emberly McNair.
“With Megan, her presence at the net is obvious, but her back row presence is less talked about,” Lee said “She doesn’t talk too much but does so purposefully and takes responsibility. She’s well-rounded as a player, but she’s also a great teammate and easy to coach and play with because of her character and humility.
“And (Cope), she’s so smart. I’m trying to get her to swing more but she knows where to place the ball. I had zero hesitation putting her in because she’s so good defensively.”
With McNair, Lee credited the sophomore’s infectious energy that spreads throughout the team.
“It really helps, especially in volleyball, and she was just ready,” Lee said of McNair. “Sometimes I’d start her in the back, sometimes in the front, and she was ready for whatever we needed. She was very effective all the way around but would always cheer for other people, too. A really good athlete who applied all the feedback given with lots of energy.”
At Bearden, head coach Kaitlyn Davidson saw a sizable impact from All-District picks Karis McGaha, Lyla Sutton and Addy Mahan.
“This season wasn’t everything we hoped for in the win column, but I’m proud of the heart our girls showed through the challenges,” Davidson said.
Under coach Eric Boden, HVA saw three All-District picks in first-teamer Maddie Jerrell, second-team pick Caroline Clauss and honorable mention selection Parker Lamb. Clauss earned Server of the Year and was named to the All-Region team while Lamb and Jerrell earned All-Tournament honors for district.
In Division II, Webb’s Isla Adams and Arabella Keith earned All-Region honors while Concord Christian’s Laney Hochevar was named All-Tournament. She earned first-team All-District, along with Molly Sloan and Madisyn Glasgow. Second-team All-District went to Clara Sanchez and Manhattan Shuler.
At CAK, Olivia Engle and Harper Bodiscomassink earned second-team All-District and Newcomer of the Year, respectively.
At Knoxville Catholic, Emma Glandon earned All-District for the Irish while Vanderbilt signee Mia Kinney took home region MVP honors.
