Area standouts rack up DII soccer awards
At Concord Christian, the Lady Lions made program history by winning a state tournament game for the first time ever. Ivey Fender, Addison Rogers, Elizabeth “EKR” Reed and Kiran Keeton took home All-Region awards for CCS, and head coach Jason Jennings offered plenty of good things to say on each player.
“Addison Rogers, our junior midfielder, played incredible in the region games,” he said. “EKR is our keeper. In the region, she played amazing with 26 saves and two shutouts. Had an elite save against CAK in the opening minutes to keep the game scoreless. She’s a junior. Kiran Keeton is a senior center back. In the region, she helped lead our defense that gave up only one goal in regulation and overtime. She scored the PK in the second half against CAK in the region championship match and also netted one in the penalty shootout.
“And Ivey Fender is the freshman,” he added. “She’s our striker. She had the only goal in the quarterfinal regional match against Silverdale.”
Christian Academy of Knoxville saw selections, too, starting with region MVP and All-Region selection Olivia Law. Ellie Leemon, Addison Loetz, Marlee Stokely and Ella Bennett also earned All-Region honors.
At Webb, All-State nods have not yet come out, but multiple players earned All-Region s.
Mary Mac Emery took home region MVP for the Division II-AA East region. Gracen Daniels earned All-Region for Webb as well, as did Layla Kassira, Piper Luhn, Lauren Newell, Simone Romain and Gideon Bradford, who earned Honorable Mention.
For Catholic, Gianna Notarianni and Sophia Pumariega captured All-Region honors for Division II-AA East as well.
